Saturday, April 9, 2016 – BMW Tour d’Elegance
The Jolla Concours Tour d’Elegance will kick off at Chuck Spielman’s Only Yesterday Museum. Although it’s not a time capsule, Only Yesterday Classic Autos and Hall of Heroes is a showroom and museum for Chuck Spielman’s private stable of classic autos spanning from the 1930s to the present, along with a priceless collection of military memorabilia from throughout the last century that is recognized by the world renowned Smithsonian Institute. Spielman, a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran and retired commercial real estate executive, opened his collection for private viewing in 1998 in New York, then moved it to San Diego in 2001 after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
Deeply inspired by his patriotism and a dream to pay tribute to war veterans, Spielman privately funds his efforts as a whole. The La Jolla Concours Tour d’Elegance give you a very rare and unique opportunity to see one of the most incredible collection of automobiles as well as view some spectacular military artifacts that range from the fork and spoon of Eva Braun to the service uniform of a WWII veteran, to the original orders of the invasion of Normandy, each of these have a very unique and personal story behind it.
The Tour d’Elegance will then travel through some of San Diego’s most scenic highways to take a private behind the scenes tour of the USS Midway, where we will walk in the footsteps of 225,000 Midway sailors who served our country and upheld the American ideas of strength, freedom and peace. This will be a unique opportunity to see another one our amazing military collections in San Diego.
From the USS Midway, our tour continues to the San Diego Air & Space Museum, one of the country’s premier aerospace museums recognized by the Smithsonian Institution. Take a private tour of rare specimens of aircraft history, early aviation exhibits, reproductions and authentic examples of World War I and II engines and aircrafts, as well as replicas of modern jet and space technology.
